Classes had been going well enough this term. She'd been studying like usual, but that was starting to get a little boring. Caroline abandoned her books in the common room, tossed her bag onto her four-poster bed, and headed for the portrait hole. It was the weekend, and she didn't want to spend it holed up the entire time. Besides, sometimes, when she did that, the results weren't always what they were supposed to be. She wasn't exactly feeling down today, but she did need a change of pace, and she knew of at least one place she could always go to put a smile on her face no matter what.
She wasn't sure if her mother would be in her classroom or not, but she knew if she wandered around enough, she'd be sure to find the woman eventually. The first stop: the Muggle Studies classroom. Caroline wasn't old enough to take the class just yet, but she knew the location well. Whether or not her mother was there remained to be seen, but it was always a good place to check.
The door opened with a bit of a squeaking noise, and Caroline poked her head inside the door, her eyes scanning the room. "Mom? Are you in here?" she called out.

Annabelle was hanging a large wooden shield that she had been given after a study in Africa. The piece was heavier than she had expected, and yet she didn't stop to think of using magic to help mount it on her wall. Annabelle's classroom, after all, was a no-magic zone. She felt like if one wanted to understand muggles, one had to live like them, at least while studying. She had almost managed to get the shield hooked on the nails she had placed for mounting when she heard a very familiar voice from behind her.
"Yes, sweetie. Give your mum two shakes and she'll be right there!" Her voice was light and cheerful. She had not seen her daughter in nearly two days, which wasn't unusual, but that didn't mean that she hadn't missed the girl. Annabelle gave one last heave and the shield managed to hook into place. Triumphant, she grinned and took a step back. The shield was crooked, but Annabelle just tilted her head slightly to the left.
"Perfect!" She turned and grinned at her daughter. "Sweetheart! You should have told me you were coming. I would prepared us a picnic or-" She noticed that it was already dark, just past dinner time, but certainly no time to be taking a picnic. "Oh. Goodness, where does the time go?" She wiped her hands on her robes, "No matter. Tell me, how was your day?"

"Okay!" Caroline smiled. She stood, watching her mother as she finished the task. When her mother was finished with the shield, Caroline took a step back to admire her mother's work, and smiled as her mother adjusted the shield on the wall. "That looks really good, mum." she commented. The classroom always looked really nice, but Caroline thought that it was really the work that her mother put into making it feel special that made it so nice. She smiled again when her mother was finished, and found herself looking at the floor for a moment when Annabelle spoke to her.
She looked up, shaking her head. "Sorry. I didn't really think about it. I was in the common room and I kind of just decided to visit..." she admitted. A blush came to her cheeks, and she shrugged, looking down at the ground again. "I just needed a change of pace, I think. Homework was getting boring." Whenever she needed a smile or something to do, she always came to her mother. Annabelle always knew how to brighten the day, even if it was getting a little bit late.
Caroline wrapped her mother in a tight hug. "My day was pretty good. Full of homework. One of the ghosts was giving some of the first years a hard time. I wanted to come visit you, though. And we don't even need a picnic!" she assured her mother, tightening the hug just a little bit. "How was your day?"
