With the new school term fast approaching comes the time to dust off the younger characters and toss them into the fiery pits of social hell. In other words: welcome to the wonderful world of playing an awkward teen. While our most-loved (though, to some, most-loathed) characters run the gamut from conscientious young Griffindors to vile, rebellious Slytherins and are played accordingly, there are a few things you should keep in mind. Yes, that's right, it's time for the dreaded rules.
- Show up for your classes. If your student doesn't post within the classes assigned to them (and electives, of course), they run the risk of losing house points and/or getting detention. Of course, if the character has a legitimate reason for skipping class (ex: they're in the hospital wing from injuries sustained during a quidditch match) or you as a player aren't available to post, there's no need to worry about losing points or getting detention. Also keep in mind that if you don't get a chance to post until later in the thread, you can always write your student as having been in the class but only just speaking up/doing something to gather attention. You aren't required to write it as if your student was late.
- Stay out of the forbidden forest. Or go right ahead and explore. Just don't expect to get away with it every time (or even the first time). If and when caught, the student will be punished accordingly.
- Be where you're supposed to be. This is, by far, the most fun rule to break. Seriously. There's the risk of being caught, conditions and skills considered, but it provides some rather entertaining threads for those who play mischievous students (or any other type that may end up in such a situation). Everything from sneaking around the castle at night to trying to break into a professor's office can be attempted; but beware angry professors and tattle-tale ghosts should you dare to attempt such feats. As with the other rules, those caught breaking this one will be punished accordingly (in character only, in case that wasn't made clear enough).
Students aren't the only ones held responsible for their actions or expected to behave properly, though. Charged with the duty of molding the students into respectable and skilled young witches and wizards, the professors are under more pressure than even the most exam-anxious student. They have to know their stuff, deal with annoyance, and still hold their composure enough not to hex that annoying student in the back row mocking their actions. (Didn't think they saw you, eh?) Playing a professor can be both frustrating and fun, depending widely on the subject to which they are assigned and the students with which they are presented. But you chose the task, so let's hope you're up to the challenge...
- Post a new class thread each month. It doesn't have to be on any specific day of the month, so long as it happens and the students are given ample time to respond. As with the student rules, if you aren't available for posting you'll be excused for not having the thread ready to go. However, keep in mind that Headmaster Moss is quite the stickler for efficiency. Should you make a habit of not posting the threads, your professor may just be deemed a slacker. That wouldn't be good at all, would it?
- Heads of House should check in on their house periodically. This one's rather simple and allows flexibility in that there's no set time between when the Heads of House should check in with the students under them. Just make sure it happens, and all will be well.
- Behave in an exemplary fashion. In other words: When the professors are around the students, they should be on their best behaviour. Don't allow personal and professional lives to collide, either. Or, if you do, beware being caught. Depending upon the situation, the repercussions could very well damage the professor's career.
With that out of the way, hopefully everyone will be on the same page (so to speak). The new term starts shortly, and I look forward to seeing what will come from the various personalities we've thrown into the mix this time. We just may be in for an exciting year...

Ministry officials were shocked today, as an unknown face exposed a Death Eater working from within the Ministry itself. Our reporters later learned that the man responsible for this discovery, was Mikko Lindstrom. Many Ministry workers are baffled by this news, we caught up with a few eye witnesses and asked for their thoughts on the days activities. "The Lindstrom character did look a little wonky." said Patty Pattinson, Ministry worker. Other comments about the scene ranged from, "How did he know Zacharias was a Death Eater?" to, "I think I've seen that man before.".
We were later informed Lindstrom has a record at the Ministry, of being a Death Eater himself. This news has brought questions to us, and the hundreds in attendance. Why would he turn in one of his own kind? What was he doing at the Ministry in the first place? Why was he allowed to walk out? We were informed by the receptionist, that Lindstrom had come in with a Hermione Granger for questioning. When we caught up with Naomi Rahl, Head Auror and the woman said to have questioned Lindstrom, all she would say was, "He has changed".
Sources say that Rahl won't be available for questioning anytime soon. Due to a full scale search of the ministry for others like the now exposed Death Eater. His name is Zacharias Smith. We don't know much about him quite honestly. We have been informed that he attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and his whereabouts became unknown after he left school. If you have any other information on Smith, that you feel the Ministry should know, we ask that you come forward and help them in this, a very trying time.

Broadcasting on every local TV - A woman reporter standing in a local park with a serious look on her face.
It was in this very park only two weeks ago that I, Lora McCulloch investigative reporter, took a quite suspicious picture of a woman who was walking through this park.
A picture of a woman barely appearing shows up on the screen
You may think this picture doesn't mean much or that is was altered but it was not. Take a closer look. You will notice that the woman barely appears.
The picture of the woman flashes again
With the recent disappearances and unnatural crimes that have been taking place in the inner city of London; we here at the BBC have been following the clues. The clues lead to something that people have wrote off for hundreds of years. Vampires. Yes, I know it may sound absurd; I thought it was just two weeks ago. But truly ask yourself how could this disappearances and crimes be happening the way the are unless they are happening by vampires? And how could this woman barely show up on a camera unless she was a vampire?
I leave you with those questions tonight. I will be reporting more on this story within the coming weeks.
This is Lora McCulloch signing off. Back to you, Tom.
The screen goes back to the announcers. "Thanks Lora," the man says with a worried look on his face, "London just might start to believe after you get to the bottom of this."

That's right, folks. With completion of the Hogwarts custom banner, all custom themes and banners should officially be done now. If there is any missing, or problems with any existing color themes or custom banners, please contact me, Childe of Night, and let me know so that I can get whatever it is fixed and back up as soon as possible.
Also, remember to visit the forum requests area if you have ideas for any other custom forums. There is a form within that board that can be completed for new forums/customization/etc....
Vampire Starlight will be looking at UBB updates on Tuesday night and we will decide whether or not updates are needed. Again, as she said, this should not affect gameplay. We will keep everyone updated!
Happy Posting!
