MeritsAndFlaws

Continue to Changeling Merits and Flaws? or Mage Merits and Flaws?

Most HP characters are very similar to normal people (minus the magic, of course), so if you can't find any merits or flaws you like here, be sure to check the General Merits and Flaws list as well. If you're working on a blended application, you also might get lucky looking through the Werewolf Merits and Flaws and the Changeling Merits and Flaws? lists as well.

Phsyical Merits

Excellent Flier
Years of playing Quidditch have kept you in shape. You are an expert on a broom, and can pull off all sorts of fancy maneuvers.

Good Aim
Your wand is practically attached to your hand, and unlike the unfortunate soul you're up against, you rarely (if ever) miss your target.

Mental Merits

Eidetic Memory
This is, essentially, a photographic memory. You are able to recall all things that you have seen and heard with utmost clarity and detail. It's as if it just happened, regardless of when it really did.

Iron Will
It's nigh impossible to change your mind once you've become determined to accomplish a goal - whatever that goal may be. Mental attacks from any supernatural beings aren't very likely to work against you if you're aware of the efforts and make your own effort to resist their persuasion. Even when you aren't aware, though, their chances of success are lowered.

Self-Confidence
Whenever you need confidence in your abilities, you won't have to worry as much as others might in the same situation. You don't let fear or defeat take over, for you know that you can accomplish the task at hand. Of course, 'know' is more akin to 'delude yourself into believing,' but either way it gives you that extra surge of confidence needed to pull you through whatever you're attempting to accomplish.

Quick-Witted
You think with what seems to be lightning speed, always there with a thought (usually in the form of a witty quip) when others least expect it. Very rarely do you find yourself at a loss for words in a sticky situation; and while this gives you an extensive collection of witty come-backs, it also has more practical uses. When stuck in stressful or otherwise time-constrained situations, you are able to react in a timely manner, grasping onto your solution before the hourglass runs dry.

Social Merits

Ministry Official
You're a well-known Ministry Official. Whether you've been neck deep in the Ministry for years or are new to its ranks, you've earned yourself some respect.

Pillar of the Community
You are respected and trusted not just by those who know you, but by the general population of the community as well. In other words: you are an upstanding citizen (or perhaps a dark and evil bloke, depending upon whether you take this in regards to ties in the Death Eater community or the normal wizarding world). Your peers are more likely to believe you, even when you say outlandish things or cover up extremely strange circumstances. Just don't expect to use this to get yourself out of trouble too many times. After all, people start to get suspicious after a while...

Accomplished
You've done something pretty awesome that has caught the attention of the Wizarding (and perhaps even the Muggle) world. People definitely recognize your name.

Physical Flaws

Clumsy
You trip all over yourself. All the time. Your spells and potions go awry on a regular basis. Oops?

Bad Sight
This one's rather simple: your eyesight just isn't that great. You may wear glasses or contacts (depending upon how close your ties to the muggle world are, contacts may or may not be an option) to correct your vision problems, but that doesn't mean they aren't there.

Hard of Hearing
As with 'Bad Sight,' this is a rather simple one as well. Your hearing is faulty. There are means, both magical and muggle, that may be taken to enhance what's left of your hearing, but it's still a problem in the long run.

Bad Aim
You and your wand (or is it you and your hand?) don't get along very well, and you couldn't hit a target if your life depended on it. Your spells hit the wrong mark all the time. This can make day-to-day magical life a bit of a pain in the backside sometimes.

Mental Flaws

Insanity
You're one sandwich short of a picnic basket, one can short of a six-pack, or perhaps you've just flown over the cuckoo's nest. Of course, these are all metaphorical - and quite muggle - ways of explaining it, but hopefully you get the drift. You can choose your form of insanity when it comes to this flaw, but do keep in mind that it needs to be plausible. Believing in magic or thinking you can turn into an animal isn't going to get you flagged as insane within the wizarding world. Although, if you happen to not really be able to change into an animal, that's an entirely different story...

Victim of Memory Charm
You are a victim of a memory charm (although you might not know it), and you can't remember anything before it was cast. If you were really unlucky, you might not even remember who you are.

Social Flaws

Former Death Eater
You used to be a Death Eater, and even though you've changed your ways (or so you claim), you aren't very trusted by most of Magical society, and because of the Mark on your arm, everyone will always know what you were.
